Part of the Progressive Policy Institute, the Innovation Frontier Project (IFP) explores the role of public policy in science, technology, and innovation.
Our mission is to:
·Encourage broad technological change over the next 10 years.
·Promote technology development along ethical and liberal values.
·Advance American technological leadership for domestic and global prosperity.
The United States has reached a crossroads. We need sustained innovation over the next twenty years to provide the next generation with a healthy, safe, and prosperous life. But that’s not enough: At the same time, we need to grapple with applying ethical and liberal values to innovations in areas such as biotech, artificial intelligence, and energy generation and use. And we must proceed in a way that keeps America at the forefront of technological leadership.
The purpose of the Innovation Frontier Project is to identify policies that support this unique three-pronged approach to innovation. Through commissioning research and convening experts, we will find the very best solutions that meet this high bar.

Jordan Shapiro
Jordan Shapiro is the director of the Innovation Frontier Project at PPI. In addition to running IFP’s daily operations, her research interests include AI, privacy, data, and digital transformation.
Michael Mandel
Michael Mandel is vice president and chief economist at PPI. His current work focuses on the economic benefits of digital manufacturing; job creation by ecommerce and 5G; pharmaceutical pricing and innovation; and regulation of cross-border data flows.
